Severo Sarduy, 1937 auf Kuba geboren, lebte von 1960 an als Maler, Romancier, Dichter, Essayist, Hörspielautor, Dramatiker, Wissenschaftsjournalist, Lektor und Herausgeber in Paris. Er starb 1993 an den Folgen von Aids.
Sarduy, Enfant terrible unter den lateinamerikanischen Schriftstellern, zählt zu den bedeutendsten kubanischen Autoren des 20. Jahrhunderts. Auf Deutsch erschienen bisher, neben einigen Hörspielen, die Romane »Bewegungen« (1968), »Kolibri« (1991) und »Woher die Sänger sind« (1993).
