Beginning with his 1919 masterpiece, Winesburg, Ohio, Sherwood Anderson exercised an immense influence on American fiction writers. "Anderson was the father of all my works, " declared William Faulkner, "and those of Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc. … He showed us the way."
