V.B. Price is a poet, journalist, environmental writer and human rights columnist, working in New Mexico and the Southwest since l962. He”s the former editor of Century Magazine, New Mexico Magazine, The New Mexico Mercury (online), and a long-time columnist at the New Mexico Independent and The Albuquerque Tribune. He retired in 2010 as the editor of the Mary Burritt Christensen Poetry Series at the University of New Mexico Press. His recent columns can be read at mercmessenger.com. Price”s latest nonfiction work is The Orphaned Land: An Environmental History of New Mexico since the Manhattan Project. He is currently working on a book entitled The Southwest”s Tragic Landscape: Drought, Pollution and Poverty in the American Southwest. In progress is a looking glass poem to Memoirs of the World, entitled Planet Now. He”s also progressing on a epicurean poem responding to Lucretius, and a work of 48 poems entitled Homeric America. Price received an honorary Doctor of Letters (Litt.D) from the University of New Mexico in 2016, and was awarded the Paul Re” Peace Prize at UNM for “lifetime achievement” the same year.
