Property was very unsafe; for although the turbulent outrages that had spread about desolation upon a more fearful scale, had somewhat still there were too many of those violent and lawless spirits abroad to allow the peacable and quiet, especially if they possessed wealth or property, to sleep in their beds with anything like a sense of security.
