Joan Delano Aiken, 1924 in Rye, England geboren, war eine der bekanntesten britischen Schriftstellerinnen.Sie arbeitete erst für die BBC, dann für das St. Thomas Hospital und im Londoner Büro für die Vereinten Nationen. 1963 veröffentlichte sie den Erfolgsroman “Wölfe ums Schloss”, für den sie mit dem Lewis Carrol Shelf Award geehrt wurde. Sie verfasste u.a. drei Jane Austen Folgeromane und erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen für ihre Werke. Joan Aiken ist vor allem für ihre spannenden Fantasy- und Kriminalromane bekannt.2004 verstarb sie im Alter von 79 Jahren in Sussex.
