JOHN COLLIER (1901-1980) nació en Londres y comenzó su carrera literaria publicando sus primeros poemas en 1920. A principios de los años treinta, dio un giro hacia la ficción y escribió la popular y controversial novela His Monkey Wife, sobre un hombre casado con una chimpancé. En 1935 abandonó Inglaterra y se mudó a Hollywood, donde se convirtió en un guionista prolífico, tanto de cine como de televisión, y ejerció una gran influencia en el desarrollo del estilo subversivo y exquisitamente escalofriante de clásicos como Alfred Hitchcock presenta y La dimensión desconocida. En 1973 se publicó su adaptación de El paraíso perdido de John Milton —Paradise Lost: Screenplay for Cinema of the Mind. Fantasías y buenas noches, publicado por vez primera en 1951, es la obra cumbre de su producción literaria.
