This book is a series of vignettes that I call "moments." The concept of a "moment" is explained fully in the introduction. A "moment" is akin to what is sometimes called "a light bulb moment" – a sudden flash of insight. But in this book the personal "moments" I describe are much more than short periods of simple inspiration. They are also turning points for me (another meaning of the word "moment"). Each chapter describes the "moment" itself, and then discusses the meaning of the event, and its subsequent long-term ramifications. Each chapter can be read individually, but there are certain threads that weave through the whole book, and which are drawn together at the end. The book is written in first person narrative because all these events happened to me, and all of them influenced my life for the better. In some ways the book is a sequel to "A Life in Anthropology" which NOVA published. It has the same quality of using anthropology in everyday life. Suitable for new undergraduates as well as a general audience.
