About the author

Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) was a prominent Anglo-Irish writer. Best known for his satirical works Gulliver’s Travels and A Modest Proposal, he is considered a master of Horatian, Juvenalian, and what is now known as Swiftian satire. The dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, he also wrote essays, political pamphlets, and poetry.
