Justin Huntly Mc Carthy (1859–1936) was an Irish author, playwright, and politician, remembered for his contributions to literature during the turn of the 20th century. Born in Cork, Ireland, he was the son of the noted nationalist politician, Justin Mc Carthy. Following in his father”s footsteps, he ventured into a political career but his passion for writing eventually carved his path into the world of literature. “If I Were King” is among Mc Carthy”s most recognized works, a romantic novel that was later adapted into the play “The King” and the operetta “The Vagabond King”.
