Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856–1923) was an American educator and author known for her endearing children’s stories and for her contributions to children’s education. Born in Philadelphia and later settling in California, Wiggin pursued her passion for educational reform and children’s welfare, notably establishing the first free kindergarten in San Francisco in 1878.
