This series of letters from Hearn to an older friend, Henry Watkin, details his literary ambitions and the extent to which Japan and the East gripped his imagination even from a comparatively young age—
The New York Times said the book reveals interesting aspects of the author, who signed his name as a “pen-and-ink drawing of a raven.”
