This book is a comprehensive overview of 12 approaches to psychotherapeutic practice, integrating the various approaches through the application of a conceptual model that provides a generic foundation linking all approaches. It is designed for graduate and professional training level survey courses in counseling and psychotherapy, comparing the approaches with regard to their theoretical foundations and therapeutic applications. Introductory chapters propose a generic social cognition model and relate it to functional components of the interpersonal interaction process based on Reuven Feuerstein’s theory of Structural Cognitive Modifiability that is proposed to underly all forms of psychotherapeutic interventions. Each chapter contains illustrative therapeutic responses consistent with the particular approach and integrative model, and organized to fit with semester or quarter hour survey courses. Each chapter has study questions for the reader as a guide for seminar discussion.
