About the author


Mark Pattison (1813-1884) was a British churchman and writer.  He wrote a number of biographies, including of Isaac Casaubon and of John Milton. He also published a well-regarded critical edition of Milton’s sonnets, and served for many years as the rector of Lincoln College, Oxford.
