He is the author of two New York Times bestselling books, Unaccountable and The Price We Pay. A medical innovator, at John Hopkins Makary helped to develop The Surgical Checklist, which was later popularized in Atul Gawande”s best-selling book The Checklist Manifesto. Makary was named one of the most influential people in healthcare by Health Leaders magazine, is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, previously worked at the WHO and has been a visiting professor at 25 medical schools.
