He has received numerous awards in New York, California, and Maryland for furthering educational achievement among the racially disadvantaged. Calvin B. Holder, Ph.D. (Harvard), is a professor of history, former history department chair, and director of the African American Studies program at the College of Staten Island/CUNY.
