Hans-Christoph Pape, MD, FACS, is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Trauma Surgery at University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. He was previously Professor and Chairman of Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical Center Aachen, Germany (2009–17), Division Chief of Traumatology in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA (2005–9), and Full Professor of Trauma Surgery at Hanover Medical School, Germany (2000–5). He has received a number of awards, including the Dieffenbach Award from the German Society of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery (2017) and the 2015 best book award from the British Medical Society. Dr. Pape is Editor in Chief of Open Access Emergency Medicine, a section editor for Injury and the European Journal of Trauma, and an editorial board member for several more journals. He has authored or edited a number of books, including The Poly-Traumatized Patient with Fractures (Springer; co-editors R. Sanders and J. Borrelli, 2nd edition 2015), and has been lead author of 93 journal papers in peer-reviewed journals and a co-author of a further 370.  Stephen Lloyd Kates, MD, is Professor (with tenure) and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, USA. He is also Associate Director of the Center for Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Rochester. Dr. Kates graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, in 1984 and then completed residencies in Surgery and Orthopaedics at Northwestern University and University of Rochester, respectively. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Prior to taking up his present position in 2015, he was a Professor at the University of Rochester. Dr. Kates was Founding President of the International Geriatric Fracture Society (2012–3). He is Editor in Chief of Geriatric Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation and actsas a reviewer for many other journals. He is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and the co-editor of one book.  Christian Hierholzer, MD, Ph D, is Titular Professor of Traumatology at University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. Prior to taking up his current position in 2015, he was Full Professor of Surgery at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Dr. Hierholzer graduated in Medicine from Albert Ludwig University Freiburg, Germany, in 1990 and subsequently trained in Surgery in Munich, Pittsburgh, and New York. He obtained his board certification in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery in 2006 and in Orthopaedics in 2007 and completed his Habilitation in 2000. Dr. Hierholzer is a Scientific Board Member for the Association Internationale pour l”Ostéosynthèse Dynamique (AIOD), Germany. In 2014 he was nominated as a Medical Expert Member of the Ad Hoc Group Medical Reports for the EU Commission in Brussels by the German Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. He acts as a reviewer for various journals.  Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari, MD, Dr PH, is a Professor and Director of the Department of Geriatrics at University Hospital Zurich and Chair of Geriatrics and Aging Research at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. She is also Director of the Center of Aging and Mobility at the University of Zurich and Director of the University of Zurich Geriatric Network. She holds a Doctor of Public Health degree from Harvard School of Public Health and is board certified in General Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Geriatrics. Dr. Bischoff-Ferrari’s research focus is the prevention of falls, frailty, fractures, and sarcopenia and the extension of healthy life expectancy. She has been principal or co-investigator on 14 randomized controlled trials and many epidemiologic projects. She has authored 74 original articles in peer-reviewed journals, 65 reviews, and a number of other publications and has an H-index of 41.
