Mark Smith, a young black man is hanged in July 1961 for the murder of his white fiancee. The real killer escapes and follows a successful political and criminal career shadowed by his great rival, Marcus Greenway. Fifty years later, Marcus is Prime Minister and Jonathan Greenway, his grandson begins to investigate the 1961 trial.
