Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. I feel that a word is needed concerning our national dis regard of Charles and Mary Lamb’s memory. The grave where they lie, in Edmonton churchyard, a drawing of which will be found opposite page 402 of Volume II., has occasion ally been allowed to fall into a deplorable state. Private piety has twice restored the stone; and at the present moment the flowers are in the care of certain persons who are not likely to allow neglect again to reign; but one would like to think that the nation charged itself with some little office for this brother and sister.
