This edition of Jane Austen’s letters was edited by Fanny Knight’s son Edward Hugessen Knatchbull-Hugessen (the first Baron Brabourne, lived 1829-1893), and was published in 1884. The Letters of Jane Austen (1884) publishes these letters for the first time, and sets them in a family context drawn from the reminiscences of those who knew Austen personally. This first of two volumes begins with a biographical essay and then includes letters from 1796 to 1807.
This is a wonderful book and gift for any Jane Austen admirer!

Born Edward Hugessen Knatchbull, he was the younger son of Sir Edward Knatchbull, 9th Baronet, who twice served as Paymaster-General, and his second wife Fanny Catherine Knight, who was a niece of author Jane Austen. Though forgotten and unread today, Knatchbull-Hugessen wrote many well-known short stories of fantasy and faery. Brabourne also edited the first edition of the novelist Jane Austen’s letters, published in 1884. This edition included about two-thirds of her surviving letters, and was dedicated to Queen Victoria. He inherited the letters after his mother’s death in December 1882.
