Manila Fortuna is a fictionalised Travelogue which describes
Manila through the eyes of previous explorers and through
the liaisons and romantic relationships of the narrator of this
semi-fictionalised story of the City and its people. But the
special twist to this story is the conditional status of its veracity,
for Manila culture embodies tsismis, a peculiar Filipino form
of rumour, consequently this story is ambiguously real and
make-believe.
Mengenai Pengarang
I have lived and taught in the universities in Manila for several years, and written extensively on Filipino culture and enjoy the history and traditions of this unique city. I am a professor teaching Psychology and Philosophy for many years in London and in the Philippines. One of my specialisms in psychology is `cognition and perception`, and I have applied some of the ideas from these ways of thinking to daily life in Manila. I have also enjoyed relationships with Filipinos and these have given me insights of the differences in perceptions, and some of the events in this fictionalised `Travelogue` provides a `personalised` account of Manila and its atmosphere.
I live in Reading in Berkshire England, and I currently teach Health and Social Care studies to international students, many of them Filipino. The idea for this book came out of conversations with my students, who enjoyed listening to my stories of my own personal experiences in Manila
