Afterwords the book, is a collection of seven different and unique word games. A highlight of this collection is that there are word games for a variety of number of players for ages 7 – Adult. There are word games for individual players such as Alphabetics, Random, Text-A-Word, My Word, and Jumblegram. And the Random game on page 16 features a starburst promoting a $500 prize for a contest for the person mailing in the highest score. There are also word games for two players, such as Word-O, and some of the solitaire games mentioned above can also be easily adapted for two players. Then there is the game Afterwords, which can be adapted to any number of players as well as family and friend’s game-night team competitions. So, you can see that there are words games for everyone who enjoys the challenge of creating words and solving puzzles. Though not specifically designed for the classroom, a number of English teachers have used these games to make learning fun. Also, soon to be published is Afterwords the ‘Box Game’. This version of the book uses a deck of alphabet cards and a timer and score sheets. Also look for the soon to be released Afterwords the book Volume II and my interactive website. Ken Rand is an award-winning college math professor who retired in 2015 after 47 incredible years of teaching. Ken’s recently published and acclaimed memoirs of his teaching experiences titled, ‘One Student at a Time: A Teacher’s Journey’, can be found in his website (Ken Rand.net), Amazon, Google Play, etc. Ken’s teaching experiences include a variety of educational levels beginning with, junior high school, high school, and then two and four-year colleges. For a brief period, he was also the director of research and development for Creative Publications, a mathematics educational publisher. While working for Creative Publications Ken wrote and edited a variety of real-world activity books and created some classroom games. He has also written an Algebra textbook (published by West Publishers) called ‘Solving the Mystery.’ Some of the strategy games that he created have been sold in retail stores such as Macy’s, J.C. Penney and stores throughout Canada and Europe. More recently, he is one of the co-authors and contributors of the book, ‘Habits of the Mind’ (Stylus Publishers).Ken has been fascinated with word games for a long time and in 1976 he created a number of word games which he has now published as a complete book, ‘Afterwords’.
