The neutral Shanghai International Settlement, where Margaret and her family lived, became a gudao (lone islet) of safety from the savagery of the Japanese soldiers. Margaret Blair has enjoyed three careers: in teaching, social and financial marketing research, and as mother of three and grandmother of three.
Margaret, author of Shanghai Scarlet and other books, continues her entertaining life in writing. She lives with her husband, a professor emeritus of the University of Toronto, beside a river, among Mennonite farms, in southwest Ontario, Canada.
