María Antonia López-Burgos del Barrio nació en Granada. Licenciada en Filología Inglesa (1977) se licenció posteriormente en Geografía humana (1982). Se doctoró en Filolofía Inglesa en 1989 realizando posteriormente otros cursos de Doctorado y siendo Catedrática de la Escuela Universitaria en la Universidad de Granada.
Desde 1976 ha centrado su investigación en el estudio de los viajeros ingleses y norteamericanos en la España de los siglos XIX y XX. En 1994 comenzó por iniciativa propia una colección que ya ha alcanzado 35 volúmenes sobre viajeros ingleses y norteamericanos en Andalucía.
Ha prologado seis libros, escrito artículos en diferentes publicaciones y ha liderado la organización de congresos sobre literatura de viajes y técnicas de traducción. Sus contribuciones se han presentado en congresos por todo el mundo.
