Alan Knight es un historiador inglés. Actualmente es profesor en la Universidad de Oxford. Ha centrado sus estudios en aspectos de la historia social, económica y política de la Revolución mexicana. Sus temas de análisis comprenden aspectos muy diversos, como la historia latinoamericana, la historiografía, el Estado, la sociedad, el populismo, las relaciones internacionales de México con Inglaterra y los Estados Unidos, entre muchos otros. Actualmente es considerado una de las máximas autoridades en historia de América Latina. En 2010 le fue otorgada la condecoración de la Orden Mexicana del Águila Azteca y en 2012 el doctorado honoris causa por parte de la Universidad Veracruzana. Algunas de sus obras son La conflictiva y nunca acabada construcción de la democracia deseada: México en perspectiva histórica y comparada (2008), Mexico. The Colonial Era (2002) y Mexico. From the Beginning to the Spanish Conquest (2002).
