Capt. Alfred Scott McLaren is a USN (Ret.), PhD, former nuclear attack submarine officer and commander. He is a veteran of more than twenty Cold War missions and three Arctic expeditions. He took part in the first submerged transit of the Northwest Passage, a Baffin Bay expedition, and, as commander of USS Queenfish (SSN-651), a North Pole expedition that completed the first survey of the entire Siberian Continental Shelf. He is the president of The American Polar Society and former president of The Explorers Club.
