Ambrose Bierce is best known for ‘The Devil’s Dictionary’ (
also published by E-Bookarama Editions), but the prolific journalist, satirist, and fabulist was also a usage maven. In 1909, he published several hundred of his pet peeves in ‘Write It Right’.
‘Write It Right’ is a compilation of witty and opinionated alphabetical examples of what Bierce considered poor (American) English and advice on alternatives – entertaining, thought-provoking, occasionally outdated but so interesting to see how style and taste have changed.
