Andy Saunders is a freelance writer and researcher specialising in military aviation history with particular emphasis on the Battle of Britain and the air war over north-west Europe 1939 – 1945.A regular contributor to the aviation press on a world-wide basis he frequently has his articles published in main-stream aviation journals and is also a regular contributor to the magazines “Britain at War” and “After The Battle” and is also retained as consultant to “Britain at War”. As a published author his books include “Finding The Few”, “Finding The Foe”, “Bader”s Last Fight” and “Convoy Peewit” – all published by Grub Street with whom he has others titles in the pipeline. Grub Street also published his collaborative project with Norman Franks “Mannock VC”. This book had the spin-off of being linked to the acclaimed BBC Timewatch programme “Aces Falling” which covered the lives of World War One flying aces Mannock and McCudden. Previous books also include “Little Friends” by the prestigious New York publishers Random House. He has also been commissioned to write pieces for national and local newspapers – eg “The Mail on Sunday”.In 2005 he played the lead role in a two-hour Channel Four documentary “Who Downed Douglas Bader” and more recently has been involved in a documentary for Discovery TV on the subject of a recovery of a Battle of Britain Hurricane lost in 1940.He is also actively involved in a number of current and projected television documentary programmes and played a major part in the production of “Dig 1940” by 360Productions which was commissioned as part of the BBC”s 2010 Battle of Britain Season. He was also engaged by the BBC as consultant and contributor to its BBC South “Battle of Britain Uncovered” programme.
