Anne Russell has always loved writing, but began to write more following her diagnosis of breast cancer four years ago. She also became a columnist for her local newspaper to enable readers to follow her journey from diagnosis to treatments. Her main aim was to help to take the readers’ fear of this disease away – showing it is still possible to live a normal life and ‘reach for the stars’ in terms of achieving your goals. “I have always enjoyed writing, but this writing has become more prolific since my diagnosis of breast cancer. Writing poetry and writing in general has brought me back to source of my love of creating the written word to in turn share with others. It has heightened my awareness of how precious life is and how important it is to value both everyone and everything we have in our lives. I believe it is important to embrace our gifts of creativity to leave our footprint as part of our legacy for the future” she said. Formerly an HR professional and teacher in post 16 education, Anne now works as an Employment Law Advisor; is an amateur singer/songwriter and also volunteers at Hull Animal Welfare Trust in South Cave, East Yorkshire.
