A worthy companion to Hope’s Ruritanian romances begun with The Prisoner of Zenda, this 1906 adventure follows unassuming but beautiful Sophy Grouch as she voyages to Paris, and then to the Balkan principality of Kravonia. Only her courage and strong heart will help her survive the intrigue surrounding a mysterious jewel, the Red Star.
