During the period of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, Wang Lu, the magistrate of Dangtu County, and his subordinates were engaged in bribes and unjust behaviors. The common people jointly wrote a petition accusing the chief clerk of corruption and misconduct. When Wang Lu read the petition, he realized the accusations had implicated him. Overwhelmed with fear and anxiety, he took up his pen and wrote on the petition, "While you may be beating the grass, I have driven the snake away". The people’s accusation targeted the chief clerk but also served as a warning to Wang Lu. The book also includes a QR code that provides audio of the complete story behind the idiom "Wake A Sleeping Dog".
