Dan Smith is the Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. He is also a Professor at the University of Manchester’s Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute. From 2003 – 2015 he was Secretary General of the London-based international peacekeeping organization, International Alert. As well as The State of the Middle East Atlas, Dan is author of successive editions of The State of the World Atlas and The Atlas of War and Peace. He was awarded the OBE in 2002 and blogs on international politics at www.dansmithsblog.com
