Katherine Hepburn starred in the 1934 film version of this love story between a pastor and a secretive, vivacious gypsy who is really nobility rebelling against her guardian. J. M. Barrie (1860-1937) was a Scottish author and playwright. He was involved in the early twentieth-century attempts to overcome state censorship of the arts. Drawing inspiration from the Lewely Davies family (who had five boys), Barrie is best known as the creator of Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t grow up.
