John Campbell Shairp (1819–1885) was a Scottish critic and man of letters. Over the course of his career he wrote several studies of poetry, and in 1877 he was elected Professor of Poetry at Oxford University. His lectures on poetry were published throughout his lifetime. Many are collected in Aspects of Poetry (1881).
