The Garden Party & The Fly: Level 500 Reader (H) features modernized and simplified versions of two well-known stories by Katherine Mansfield. The Garden Party (1921) revolves around a party at the home of a wealthy middle-class family. It raises questions about discrimination, love, life and death. The Fly (1922) is set in the office of a successful businessman. Two visitors, an old man and a fly, force the businessman to think about and then forget somebody he loves.

John Mc Lean is an associate professor at Yasuda Women’s University in Hiroshima, Japan. He oversees the Department of English Interpreting Stream. He is known for his interpreting work with some of Japan’s leading athletes and film directors. In 2020, he subtitled Toshihiro Goto’s award winning film ‘Hiroshima Piano’ [Okasan no Hibaku Piano].
