Lionel Pigot Johnson (1867-1902) was an English poet, essayist and critic. A member of the Rhymer’s Club, he is best known today for his masterpiece poem “The Dark Angel” (the work and author are both referenced in the popular game Warhammer 40, 000). He converted to Catholicism, repudiating his friend Oscar Wilde. Johnson struggled with alcoholism and repressed homosexuality all his life. His works include The Art of Thomas Hardy, Poems, and Ireland and Other Poems.
