Augustine of Hippo (Latin:
Aurelius Augustinus Hipponensis; 13 November 354 – 28 August 430), also known as
Saint Augustine , was a theologian, philosopher, and the bishop of Hippo Regius in Numidia, Roman North Africa. His writings influenced the development of Western philosophy and Western Christianity, and he is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers of the Latin Church in the Patristic Period. His many important works include The City of God, On Christian Doctrine, and Confessions.
Louis Bertrand (20 March 1866 in Spincourt, Meuse – 6 December 1941 in Cap d’Antibes) was a French novelist, historian and essayist. He was the third member elected to occupy seat 4 of the Académie française in 1925. Bertrand encouraged the Jewish-Algerian writer Elissa Rhaïs to first publish her work.
