ROSINA MÁRQUEZ REITER is Senior Lecturer in Spanish Language and Linguistics at the University of Surrey, UK, where she teaches and researches (Spanish) sociopragmatics and sociolinguistics. Her current research interests include sociopragmatic variation with particular reference to Spanish as well as pragmatics in general, cross- and inter-cultural communication as well as politeness theory. She is the author of
Linguistic Politeness in Britain and Uruguay.

MARÍA ELENA PLACENCIA is Lecturer in Spanish and Linguistics at Birkbeck College, University of London, UK. Her main areas of interest are (socio)pragmatics, and cross- and inter-cultural communication. Her publications include
