Sir Paul Vinogradoff (1854-1925), born in Russia, was a professor at the University of Moscow, with a special interest in medieval times. His passion for education led to trouble with the authorities, forcing him to relocate to England. His works include Villainage in England, The Origins of Feudal Relations in Lombard Italy, The Growth of the Manor, and Roman Law in Medieval Europe.
