His real Granny fried rabbits his dad and he killed. She always had Ranch Style Beans in the pantry. Cousins are an important part of Hudson family life. Some author license and nostalgic mountain enhancement by Hudson’s sister morphed his life stories into this enchanting story safely keeping cherished family names, places, culture and values. While many grannies in South Texas Brush Country are cowgirls, Hud’s grandmother was a wonderful stay at home Granny who more often used a hoe than a gun to ward off unfriendly varmints. Her place was more farm than ranch, yet the character of Granny herself is kept true. She actually did make each grandchild feel like her favorite.
