Stephen Vincent Benét (1898-1943) was a highly popular American poet, short story writer, and novelist. He is best known for his 1929 Pulitzer Prize-winning narrative poem of the American Civil War ’John Brown’s Body” and for his story, ‘The Devil and Daniel Webster.’
