Teju Cole, geboren 1975, wuchs in Nigeria auf und kam als Jugendlicher in die USA. Er ist Kunsthistoriker, Schriftsteller und Fotograf und lehrt als Distinguished Writer in Residence am Bard College. Er ist der Fotografie-Kritiker des New York Times Magazine und Autor der dort erscheinenden Kolumne “On Photography“. Seine fotografische Arbeit wird international ausgestellt, seine Bücher “Open City” und “Jeder Tag gehört dem Dieb” gelten als herausragende Werke der neueren amerikanischen Literatur. 2013 wurde er mit dem Internationalen Literaturpreis ausgezeichnet. Zuletzt erschien von ihm die Essaysammlung “Vertraute Dinge, fremde Dinge”. Teju Cole lebt in Brooklyn, New York.
