Theodore Roosevelt’s joyous account of the years when he first settled on his ranch in the Dakota Territory in 1884-1886, reflects his love for the American West. Whether recounting stories of cowboy fights, describing his hunting adventures, or recalling the hard work of life on a ranch, Roosevelt expresses his lifelong delight for physical hardiness and tests of nerve.
