El Exemplario contra los engaños y peligros del mundo, editado en Zaragoza por Pablo Hurus en 1493, es la traducción castellana del Directorium vitae humanae alias parabolae antiquorum sapientium (entre 1262 y 1268) de Juan de Capua, versión latina del Calila e Dimna, obra que también fue vertida al castellano, directamente del árabe, en 1251 en el scriptorium de Alfonso X; así pues, la obra fue conocida en castellano tanto por vía oriental como occidental. El Exemplario contra los engaños y peligros del mundo es un eslabón importantísimo en la evolución y transmisión de la cuentística castellana medieval, y en este volumen se reúnen varios estudios que aportan un completo panorama de la entidad, características y originalidad de este ejemplario y la edición del texto, que tiene en cuenta todos los testimonios medievales de esta colección de cuentos, con el propósito de ofrecer a los lectores un completo acercamiento a la obra.
