It has become increasingly challenging in recent years for schools to fulfil their educational mission. This is not least due to a vast increase in the diversity of their clientele & with pupils and parents coming more than ever before from different social classes and cultures of origin, living in more varied types of family, often with completely different ideas about education and upbringing, and accordingly pursuing different educational goals. But it is precisely in these demanding conditions that collaboration between schools and parents has become more indispensable than ever. This book illustrates ways in which such collaboration can be constructive and sensitive and can show understanding for others. Using the model of educational partnership, it provides a framework for sustainable collaboration between schools and parents and explains how confidence-building measures, the establishment of a culture of discussion, strengthening of parents= position through counselling and parent education measures, and the involvement of school students themselves along with other educational partners can avoid and overcome difficult situations.
