Throughout Advent we read and sing the words Prepare the Way as we make room to welcome the Christ child into our lives once again. We prepare our city streets and buildings. We prepare our homes and workspaces. But sometimes Advent can slip away from us before we can prepare our hearts.

About the author
Pamela C. Hawkins, a United Methodist pastor, serves as managing editor of Weavings: A Journal of the Christian Spiritual Life (www.weavings.org). Prior to her work with Weavings, Hawkins served in local church and seminary settings, giving particular attention to the spiritual life and care of clergy and lay leaders. She is the author of two books, The Awkward Season: Prayers for Lent and Simply Wait: Cultivating Stillness in the Season of Advent, both from Upper Room Books.
