Elizabeth Garver Jordan (1867–1947) was an American journalist, editor, and author, recognized for her pioneering work in journalism and her contributions to early 20th-century literature. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jordan moved to New York City to pursue a career in writing. She quickly rose to prominence and eventually became the editor of „The Ladies” Home Journal”, one of the first women to hold such a position in a major magazine. Known for her sharp wit and insightful commentary, Jordan became a prominent figure in New York literary circles.
Jordan authored several books, but one of her most notable works is „The Story of a Pioneer” (1915), which she co-wrote with social reformer and feminist Helen Keller. This collaborative autobiography details Keller”s remarkable journey as an advocate for the disabled and women”s rights, capturing the spirit of progressivism that defined the era. Jordan”s literary style often blended elements of realism with an undercurrent of advocacy for social change, a reflection of her own progressive views. Her writings, while not as widely known today, played a significant role in the suffragist movement and remain a testament to her enduring influence as a writer and suffragette.
