Charles Cornwallis Chesney (1826 – 1876) was a British soldier, college professor, and military writer. During the times of the Crimean war, he took service in New Zealand. After the war, he was appointed professor of military history at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He started publishing his notes on the history of war campaigns in America and Europe. In 1863, he published his first work on the history of the American Civil War, which had a significant influence in Europe and the United States. Yet, his most famous work was the collection of his lectures on the Battle of Waterloo, which he published in 1868.
