Writer Daniel Doan hiked the White Mountains for nearly 70 years and wrote two hiking guides to NH’s trails, among many other books. A recipient of the New Hampshire Writers’ Project Lifetime Achievement Award, he died in 1993. His daughter, Ruth Doan Mac Dougall, has updated his hiking guides ever since. A novelist, she has also received the NHWP Lifetime Achievement Award.

Daughter of New England travel expert Daniel Doan, Ruth Doan Mac Dougall has for years helped keep his hiking guides up to date. A novelist as well, Mac Dougall received the NHWP’s 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award. She lives in Center Sandwich, NH.
