Eileen Rudnick was born in Montreal, Canada and emigrated to the U.S. in 1965. She is married to Michael Rudnick LPN, her spouse of 39 years. They have two grown children and two grandchildren and currently live in Carroll County, Maryland. Eileen was an accountant for many years before the traffic accident that changed her life in 2000. She is currently a student at Carroll Community College with a 4.0 GPA and a member of two different honor societies – Phi Theta Kappa and Delta Alpha Pi. Eileen also spends some of her time tutoring her classmates in math and writing. She has been writing since she was eight years old and is seeking a degree in English. After her rehabilitation at Kernan Hospital in Woodlawn, Eileen returned to volunteer in the office of the Brain Injury Association of Maryland (www.biamd.org) She is also the co-facilitator of a brain injury support group in Eldersburg with her husband. The anthology Reading Lips and Other Ways to Overcome a Disability, published by Apprentice House, contains a memoir by Eileen called, “To the Summit or Bust.” She was also the subject of the article, “Sustaining Spirit, ” in the June 2009 issue of Baltimore Magazine (www.baltimormagazine.net).
