Nietzsche is a famous German philosopher and poet. His aesthetics does not lie in the discussion of scientific principle or law, but in solving the fundamental problems of life by aesthetics and advocating an aesthetic attitude towards life, which is actually a philosophy of life. Selected Aesthetic Works of Nietzsche translated by Zhou Guoping systematically collates and compiles Nietzsche’s aesthetic thoughts, and adds his own summary and research articles, namely Sketch of Philosopher Nietzsche, Nietzsche’s Aesthetics Summary and An Introduction to Nietzsche’s Aesthetics. Because of the long length, it was published in two books. The Birth of Tragedy: Selected Aesthetic Works of Nietzsche includes works written from 1872 to 1880, roughly corresponds to the early and middle stages of its ideological development. The Case of Wagner: Selected Aesthetic Works of Nietzsche includes works written from1881 to 1889, roughly corresponds to the later stage of its ideological development. This book includes Nietzsche’s first philosophical work and representative work, The Birth of Tragedy. It also includes other famous works such as, Schopenhauer as Educator, Richard Wagner in Bayreuth and The Wander and His Shadow. In the book, Nietzsche adopts Dionysus and Apollo of ancient Greek mythology to symbolize two basic artistic impulses to expound the idea of saving life by art and complete his reflection on the meaning of life.
